 About Me

From my young angsty, punk-rock roots, to my modern-day  Renaissance-sassy-self, I have embodied lifetime travels, adventures and experiences into my current invention of who I call myself.

I have always had a passion for vintage fashion and culture, and my admirations and intrigue range from the Victorian and Clockwork eras all the way through to the 1960’s.   I am fascinated with objects from the past and have collected Pre-war and mid-century clothing, furnishings, and automobiles for over 20 years.  I also have a passion for low-brow and counter-culture arts and am influenced by modern-day tattoo arts, the neo-rockabilly movement, low-brow kustom-kulture, modern Steampunk and many other counter-culturistic genres.  Many different styles of music and culture influence both my person and my work.

My interests are diverse; from having a day job in the “corporate-legal world”, to being a mother; co-founder of a roller-derby league and retired roller derby girl, co-founder of a car club, an antique and vintage clothing dealer, and participating in the local indie craft-scene; it seems my interests are always varied and I am always looking for my next endeavor and adventure!  I currently live in the Seattle area with my wonderful husband of 23 years, son and 4 doggies.

The First Circus Clown

The First Circus Clown

Philip Astley created what is considered the first circus in England in 1768. He also created the first circus clown act called Billy Buttons, or the Tailor's Ride To Brentford. The topical act was based on a popular tale of a tailor, an inept equestrian, trying to ride a horse to Brentford to vote in an election. Astley impersonated the tailor attempting to ride the horse. First he had tremendous difficulty mounting correctly, and then when he finally succeeded the horse started off so fast that he fell off. As the circus grew and Astley hired other clowns, he required them to learn Billy Buttons. It soon became a traditional part of every circus for 100 years. Variations of the routine with somebody coming out of the audience to attempt to ride a horse are still being performed in modern circuses.
